Meal plan for December 10th – 16th

Phew, we had a whirlwind Saturday!  Troy (that one dude I’m married to who occasionally shows up) was home, and I got to run to the fabric store and Goodwill solo.  Then we went to get our Christmas tree, also known as the annual day we let our 3 year old play with power tools.

Before you call CPS, notice we took the battery out when letting him hold it alone.

I actually hate decorating for Christmas or any holidays so I always delay the getting of the tree.  Confession time, I hate Christmas carols.  I know, I’m a grinch.

We came home and were in the midst of decorating when our neighbor knocked on the door asking Troy to take her to her son’s house to get a desk.  Upon entering her son’s house, Troy got bit by their pitbull puppy.  Lovely!  He’s ok, but has two bites; one on his hand and one on his arm.

Side note, I made the best dessert ever last night, and you can bet I’ll be sharing the recipe later this week.

I finished up my class on Friday, and I’m hopeful for a good grade.  They’ll be released later this month, so fingers crossed!

Today, my mother-in-law and I are headed to IKEA for a MIL/DIL shopping day.  I haven’t been to IKEA since Jack was an inside baby.  I’m so excited that I could pee.

Here is our meal plan for the week.  Reminder, I only plan dinners, because breakfast is always smoothies or eggs with something, and lunches are always leftovers.  We rarely eat dessert during the week, and our dinner drink of choice is water kefir soda.

Monday:: roast chicken, dutch oven bread, fruit, and salad.

Tuesday:: Taco bowls, and fruit.

Wednesday:: Breakfast for dinner.  Whole wheat biscuits, eggs, sausage, and fruit.

Thursday:: some homemade gnocchi from the freezer, salad, and fruit.

Friday:: Baked potato soup, salad, and fruit.

Saturday:: Troy’s company holiday party.

Sunday:: Dinner at my parent’s.

I spent $3.50 on raw milk, $29 at the grocery store, and $22 at the butcher stocking up on bacon and sausage.

What are you guys having this week?

  1. OK, I’m off topic a little here, but why do you always get raw milk?
    PS: Hope hubby is okay!

    • Such a great question! A few reasons:

      1) We drink very little milk. It’s used mainly for cooking or homemade yogurt. Because we drink so little, I went to spend my milk money on super great quality milk. We go through a half gallon a week and that includes a batch of yogurt. The milk I buy comes in half gallon jars, and is the perfect amount for my family.

      2) It’s a very small local producer. My money goes directly in to the hands of the family who produces it. I get to see the cows napping in the field and eating grass. I get to the see the process up close. You’re not going to get that option with a big producer.

      3) It tastes freaking great. It makes the creamiest yogurt you’ll ever eat.

      4) Once Jack started eating products (yogurt, ice cream, etc.) made with raw milk, his dairy allergy went away. Like, gone!

  2. IKEA…I am so happy yet so afraid of having one so close.

  3. The picture of your son jumping in the mud puddle warmed my heart. So cute!!! I’ll come and decorate your tree for you, I LOVE holiday decorations. Sorry… 🙂

  4. We try not to waste food so we froze the extra turkey and dressing from Thanksgiving. Tomorrow we plan to pull it out and enjoy it all over again!

    That’s scary when a dog BITES! Especially when it bites a CHILD and that child is YOURS! Friday we took our dog, Lucy, over to my daughter’s house I’m there every day helping her with her quadruplets. They have two labs and a ‘mutt.’ Amber rescued her when someone abandoned her in the neighborhood. They had no idea of her background or anything. Well, she attacked Lucy in three places drawing blood. Lucy has been with all three of those dogs many times. Amber was so upset. She researched and found that most people don’t get rid of an aggressive dog UNTIL it bites a child! They found a no kill shelter and that’s where Reese is now! She didn’t want to take any chances! Glad your son is okay!

  5. I don’t decorate for any holiday other than Christmas and although I don’t hate that decorating or Christmas carols, I despise the Pinterest era pressure to do Elf on the Shelf, throw a gingerbread house-making party, make an advent thing with a prize for every day, take artistic photographs of children wrapped in Christmas lights, etc, etc, MAKE CHRISTMAS MAGICAL, DAMMIT! It’s all too much.

    All I know for sure as far as meals this week is that tomorrow we’re having Tuscan Salmon with Rosemary Orzo (new recipe–hope it will taste good as it sounds) and Tuesday we’re having green chili chicken tacos. I’ll do our weekly grocery shopping tomorrow, so I’ll make the rest of the plan before shopping. We’re having a cold front in South TX this week so baked potato soup sounds like a good idea! And then Saturday our kids are staying overnight at my parents’ house so dinner OUT!

  6. So you don’t feel alone…I, too, hate decorating and despise Christmas carols. I think it’s because it has been forced in our faces since Halloween. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a Scrooge, I just think too much emphasis is put on the wrong things. The Season of Peace? Maybe not. That comes after January 1. Hope your hubby is okay.

  7. Yikes, hope Troy is okay!

  8. There is a picture of Jack as an infant snuggled up w/ you or Troy and he has the exact same expression! I think Grammy has it framed somewhere in her house.
