Meal plan for February 24th – March 2nd

So, I’m pretty wiped out from this weekend, and don’t have the usual energy to put in to fart jokes, silly photos, etc.  Forgive me please.

In lieu of a photo for this week, here is a video of Jack’s first steps. Yes, I am seriously putting an almost four-year-old video up because I’m too tired to upload photos from my camera.

I woke up at 6 am on Saturday to start cooking, and didn’t sit down or eat a thing until noon.  I was cooking for a luncheon at church, and then getting everything ready for the week.

After all that, Jack and I met up with a coworker and her son, and had lunch and then hit up a children’s museum.  There are moms who love being around a lot of energetic kids.

And then there is me.

Kids wipe me the freak out you guys.  Phew!  After coming home, I vacuumed and mopped the house, cleaned all the bathrooms, and then made MORE food for the week.  Yeesh, my dogs are barking, and my new library book (kindle version) is calling my name.  I’m only halfway through this book, but I’m so in love with it that I can’t even stand it.  Nancy Pearl, the former head of the Seattle library, is on our local NPR station every month to recommend books.  I copiously write down what she writes, and she has never steered me wrong.  This latest book was a recommendation, and when it finally came in at the library for me, the librarian went on and on how much she loved it.  I can see why it’s fabulous.

Also, is there anything more douche baggey than using “copious” and “listening to NPR” in the same sentence?  Pfft!  I feel like I should be wearing pearls and drinking a dirty martini.  Instead, I’m wearing Target yoga pants (they come in talls people.  All the huge freaks in the house say yay!), and drinking water from a mason jar.  Charmed I’m sure.

Speaking of “you guys”, have you taken the New York Times Linguistics quiz yet?  I heard about this on NPR too.

Omg, there I go down the douche bag rabbit hole again.

The quiz takes about 10 minutes and is reported to deduct where you have lived based on certain word selections you choose.  It nailed me within 35 miles of my hometown; nuts!

Alright, I have laundry to fold, a book to start reading, and a foot rub to try to coerce from a spouse.  Let’s get to the brass tax, and talk meal plan.

Reminder, I only plan dinners.  My breakfast of choice has changed, and I’m now obsessed with homemade Greek yogurt with tons of cut up fresh fruit (or fruit I froze in the summer), and a homemade granola bar crumbled on top.  It’s delicious and keeps me completely full and satisfied until lunch. Lunches are always leftovers.  We rarely eat dessert during the week, and our dinner drink of choice is water kefir soda.

Monday:: Homemade Reubens, spicy chipotle sweet potato fries (why you want the recipe?  It shall be yours.  This week), and salad.

Tuesday:: Taking Jack and our neighbor boy to see the Lego Movie after I get off work.  They’re having PB&Js, cheese, apples, and $2 GMO movie theater popcorn topped with “butter substitute”.  Delicious!

Wednesday:: Tomato soup canned from last year’s garden, quesadillas, and salad.

Thursday:: My in-laws are feeding us.  Hurray!

Friday:: Popcorn dinner.  Yes, seriously we eat popcorn for dinner.  It’s popcorn, leftovers, cheese slices, fruit, and cut up veggies.  Everyone gets as much as they want, and no one leaves hungry.  I adore Fridays because it is the easiest night of the week for making everyone happy!

Saturday:: Something crockpot related.  Any ideas?

Sunday:: Family dinner at my parent’s.  They provide the main dish, and we all provide the sides and dessert.  Fun day!

I have no flipping clue how much I spent on groceries this weekend, and I’m literally too tired to get my ass up, walk 10 feet to my receipts, and add that up for you.  So, yeah.  You’re welcome.

  1. I love making salsa chicken in the crockpot. Super easy and it feeds about 8 people. My husband is thrilled to eat it 5 days in a row and he hates leftovers.

  2. Wait, wait, don’t tell me you’re gonna hate on NPR!

    • I had to read your comment twice before I got it, but then I nearly spit out my water kefir soda. You’re so funny you won Carl Castle’s voice on your home answering machine!

  3. I took the quiz and it nailed me between Overland Park KS, Wichita KS, and Springfield MO. I’m right smack dab between OPKS and Springfield on the Missouri side. AMAZING!!!
We’re having pasta this week. Lots of it. I made 5 quarts of sauce and I bought 10 pounds of pasta at Costco two weeks ago. If the boys don’t like it, we have cereal ;-). I do have that chicken in the freezer still, and the fresh mozzarella and I’ve been saying for two weeks I was going to make chicken parm but haven’t gotten off my ass to do it yet. Maybe this week!!

  4. Western PA here ….it is YINZ or YOUINS around Pittsburgh area : )

  5. I’ve taken that quiz before, & while it guesses that I live in MA, & have lived in RI, it never picks up the decades in CT. Oh well.
Here’s a great idea for that empty menu day, because you can get a whole meal out of one pan, it tastes delicious, & you get yummy leftovers! http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/2008/10/crockpot-rotisserie-style-chicken.html
(Remember to throw veggies & potatoes in the bottom of your crock)

  6. Speaking of Kindles, can someone explain to me why I’m now being asked (often) to pay more for a Kindle download than for a paperback copy of the book??? How did this happen and no one else seems up in arms about it? Someone is making a heck of a lot of money off this!!

  7. I know I’ve taken this quiz before, and I think it came out very similar to last time – Louisville, Lexington, and Little Rock. I’m from Columbus, Ohio and I live in Middle Tennessee now, so I don’t know what to think.

Anyways, I had a day like yours yesterday, actually – my DH coaches an elementary girl’s basketball team with a co-worker, and we took the girls out for pizza yesterday after their last game. Oy vey, I needed a glass of wine after that. I also need about two more full cooking days, but alas, today is it. I’m hoping it’s enough that I don’t have to ask the DH to stop on the way home and pick something up.

  8. Oh, try Nom Nom Paleo’s Kalua Pig recipe for the crock-pot! As soon as I order myself a new lid for my crock-pot, this WILL be made. So awesome.

Kids wear me out as well. My daughter too. She recently passed on a b-day invite to the trampoline place because it was taking place at the busiest time. She LOVES the trampoline place. Hates large crowds. As a homeschool kid, she gets really frustrated when other kids are don’t know how to share. Anyway.

We are planning another meal like we had for Valentine’s day (like your Friday plan but with chocolate dipped strawberries and deviled eggs). Other than that, who knows if what I wrote down will happen.

    Off to take that quiz!

  9. Your menu plan still looks great :).

  10. I thought I broke the quiz. I had to do it twice because it froze the first time after question 25. Some of the questions were different the second time. I knew it wouldn’t pinpoint me because I am in Toronto, Canada, but it gave three possibilities, two are close to me. Buffalo and Rochester. The third was Minneapolis/Saint Paul. Kinda neat. Maybe I’ll grab a POP, hit the HIGHWAY and go north to look at FIREFLIES after a SUNSHOWER. 🙂
I hope you got your foot rub. And a good night’s sleep!
