Meal plan for October 28th – November 3rd

I got a bug up my butt this week.

I couldn’t handle my hair anymore.

It was the longest it has been in YEARS.

My hair is quite fine.  An old stylist I had called it “turtle fur”.  It just hangs there and is kinda “meh”.

By the end of the day, it is pretty much one greasy dreadlock.

I had just finished doing my hair, and it was already limp and plastered to my head.

Not to mention, it was taking me six – SIX minutes to style every morning.  That is more being a girl than I can handle.

So I hacked it all off.  Oh yes I did!

New styling time?  About 45 seconds.  Sa-WEET!  It doesn’t look like the photo I gave my hair dresser, but it’s not her fault.  It’s the fault of my stupid hair that refuses to hold any texture or product of any kind.

But did I mention the 45 second styling time?

In other news, Guinness has officially declared last week, “the longest week ever”.  Everyone at work was feeling it, and I know Monday morning is only a few hours away, but I’m choosing to ignore it.  I’m sticking my head in the sand and pretending it shall never come.  Care to join me?

Today we’re heading to the baptism of my soon to be goddaughter.  She is the third child (and first girl) of one of my best friends, and I can’t wait to get my arms on that little peanut!  We’re honored to share the godparent duties with another couple, and the four of us bought her a little charm bracelet that can grow with her.  To honor the two religions in her family, we purchased a little cross and a little Star of David.  Poor little confused Lutherew (Lutheran Jew) or Jethran.  All she needs to know is that she is loved, she is blessed by god, and she is part of two faiths that cherish her.

Meal plan time!  Reminder, I only plan dinners.  My breakfast of choice has changed, and I’m now obsessed with homemade Greek yogurt with tons of cut up fresh fruit, and a homemade granola bar crumbled on top.  It’s delicious and keeps me completely full and satisfied until lunch. Lunches are always leftovers.  We rarely eat dessert during the week, and our dinner drink of choice is water kefir soda.

Monday:: Stir fry.  I’m trying something new.  We shall see.

Tuesday:: Tomato soup (canned from this year’s garden), Brussels sprouts, and ham and cheese quesadillas.

Wednesday:: Lemon rosemary chicken (never tried it, but here is the recipe), wasabi mashed potatoes, and carrots.

Thursday:: Homemade pizza, edamame, and fruit, and then heading out for trick or treating!

Friday::  Popcorn dinner.  Yes, seriously we eat popcorn for dinner.  It’s popcorn, leftovers, cheese slices, fruit, and cut up veggies.  Everyone gets as much as they want, and no one leaves hungry.  I adore Fridays because it is the easiest night of the week for making everyone happy!

Saturday:: No freaking clue.  I’m winging it.

Sunday:: Family dinner at my parent’s with extended family.  The menu gets hammered out via email during the week – my dad makes the main dish, and we each contribute sides.

This week I spent $7 on raw milk (1 gallon) because were crazy low on yogurt!  I spent $27.97 at the grocery store, and $44 at the local butcher for chicken, ham, and bacon (mmmm…bacon).  Though some of that meat is for a coworker who is hooked on my butcher’s chicken.  I’m a chicken pimp. You like breasts?  I’ll get you some breasts.  First ones free.

What are you all having this week?

  1. Your hair looks wonderful. And people with thick hair wish they had fine hair like yours 🙂

    Jethran..I like that one! 🙂

  2. Very 60’s retro look…..Twiggy style. (Google her, young ones. British model.) Love it!

    • Oh I know who Tiggy is!! I was muuuuuuuuch skinnier in high school and had very short hair. I had this amazing block color dress and people would call me Twiggy when I wore it.

Now, to get her awesome lashes!

  3. That haircut is so cute on you! I just cut my own and it takes just a few minutes to blow dry it curly and go.

  4. Love the hair cut! Short hair must be in the air. I had mine chopped a little over 2 weeks ago. While I don’t love it (I actually wanted it shorter), I decided to give it a month then go shorter if I still want to.

From the freezer today I grabbed a beef roast, 4lbs of ground beef, some lamb ribs and lamb chops. We have an ass ton of squash to go through, so I was thinking of trying to make some that my family might eat. I gave the kiddo half a carnival squash today with cinnamon sprinkled on it and she liked it, so that might be the standard. We also have lots of potatoes and purple cabbage, so it looks like meat, with squash, sauteed cabbage and some sort of potato for each meal this week! And just for variety, I’ll fry up some sliced beets as well.

Oh, and I just splurged on some kerrygold grass-fed cheese. Oh. So. Yummy. Plus I picked up some gluten free organic cereal and almond milk because I didn’t feel like scrounging up a meal tonight. So, that will last us till lunch time tomorrow.

    • I was thinking the same thing – I wish it was a big shorter! Great minds Tina, great minds.

You guys are some meat eaters, huh? Every time you post something, you guys always have so many cuts of meat on the menu. Also, an “ass ton” of squash made me smile, and I’m so impressed that you can get the kiddo to eat it! Jack wouldn’t touch it with a 10 foot pole.

I once had a friend ask me what I would splurge on when I had extra money, and I said “cheese”. Enjoy every drop of your Kerrygold! If you can find it around you, check out the Organic Valley Raw Sharp Cheddar. We call it crack cheese because it is crazy good. But is also like $13 for a brick. ;-(

    • Yeah, we like our meat. Most meals about about 1/2 meat, 1/2 veggies, though it seems that we always end up with second servings of veggies, but not of meat. The kiddo and I don’t tolerate much grain (like one or two servings a week of rice or corn is ok, but gluten and oats just DON”T like us), so that doesn’t leave much for options. Meat, veggies, fruits, nuts and seeds.

Yeah, my kid is weird. When I ask what she want’s with her eggs in the morning, lately she’s asked for sauteed Brussels Sprouts, carrots, and a little bit of onion. I love it.

  5. Can I ask a question? Do you drink the raw milk, or just use it for yogurt, ricotta, etc.? I found a source for raw milk, but it’s not legal to sell for human consumption here in Tennessee. It’s labeled for pet and livestock use.

    • Yep, we drink the raw milk occasionally. We’re not big milk drinkers – Troy is slightly lactose intolerant, Jack was allergic as a kid so he never has developed a taste for it and thinks cows milk is “yucky”. We use it in smoothies, but it is mainly for cooking.

From what I understand about non-legal raw milk in other states, people buy it marked “pet use only” but totally consume it. It’s a wink wink nod nod at the FDA.

  6. Pretty hair! I like it.

  7. I hate my hair too and haven’t had a good hair cut in ages!! I am tempted to cut it short like that so I want to see a picture of the back 🙂 I have flat and stringy hair that does nothing. I don’t use product because it never works so why bother because I end up with more greasy and yucky hair at the end of the day. I think that it was a great move and think of all the extra time in your schedule 🙂 Sounds like a great menu this week and hope it is shorter then last week!

  8. It’s so funny that you posted this today- I literally just had mine chopped a few hours ago. I was sick of it getting in the way. It was kind of an out of the blue decision but it will be so much easier to handle now! I’m glad I’m not the only one.

    • Isn’t it so freeing? I’ve had way shorter hair than this before, so I’m never really nervous about hacking it off. But I always step out of the chair feeling like I have a new lease on life.

  9. I LOVE your hair!!! Precious minutes COUNT and so does the mental boost of it looking so GOOD! You.are.beautiful.

  10. That cut is stunning on you!! Look at those cheekbones! Gorgeous!
