Scattered Sundays

I have a confession that just can’t wait for monthly confessions.

It’s embarrassing too.

I’ve started watching a new show some evenings, and um…it’s one I used to make fun of other people for watching. Like, really make fun of them. Relentlessly.

A few years ago, you all recommended I start watching The Good Place, and I loved it! And somehow…that um, transitioned to me watching the show that makes me die a tiny death to publicly admit.

My name is Sarah, and I have been binging Veronica Mars. I’ll stand here patiently while you point and laugh. I deserve it.

We haven’t had a coffee table since Jack was mobile. And therefore unstable and bound and determined to truly hurt himself. Instead, we’ve rocked a storage ottoman for 10 years.

Our current footstool was a one-person situation and eventually Troy and I got sick of fighting over it and we bought this new one off of Amazon.

I’ve been a parent for 10.5 years now, and I somehow never once saw this coming. Rookie mistake.

We had our first frost this week. What in the actual hell? Our average first frost date is around November 8th. My weird “no fires in the woodstove before November 1st” rule might just be broken this year!

Of course, the day we had an hour-long hail storm is the day Bennett went to preschool in shorts and a tshirt. Bennett is incredibly particular about his clothing and currently has one pair of pants that he likes. One.

He calls them “cozy pants” and they’re a fleece pair that are a hand me down from Target. And naturally, they don’t sell them anymore. I’ve spent days scouring Goodwill and other stores trying to find suitable replacements. None measure up and he’s having 20-minute meltdowns every morning over pants.

Have I mentioned how much I really hate when kids are three? May his brain and soul return to his body soon.

You can chalk this up to first-world luxuries, but I found something that has changed my life. It’s this little rubber insert thing for your car’s cupholder.

My car’s cupholders have gone in the way of most American products – bigger and bigger! My taller water bottles (like these Liberty bottles) and my reusable to-go cup for the blended iced coffee I make every morning are too narrow for my cupholders and move around. I constantly feel like they’re going to tip over going around corners.

And being a weird Type-A nut job, the rattling of the bottles/cups drove me bananas.

I tried using a beer coozy (klassy), a piece of foam, rubber bands, etc., but nothing worked. Troy found some inserts on Amazon and it is like all my problems were solved. All my little insignificant first world problems.

Jack a four-day weekend which morphed into a hike with him and my nephew. It was a perfect Northwest fall day with crisp temps, colorful leaves, and lots of sunshine. This time of year makes my heart so full.

I’ve been asked to give an update on our newest chicken BB Egg. She definitely was not a rooster like her coopmate Kylo Hen. She’s been fully integrated with the rest of the flock and for the most part, is doing really well.

As with all chickens, there is a pecking order and she is at the bottom of it. The only time they mess with her is when we throw out treats and she is reminded she’s the newest and littlest.

Have you had a chance to check out our American-made water bottle collection with Liberty Bottleworks yet? They’re perfect for the upcoming holidays and they support a rad local company. Just make sure you use coupon code “sustainablecooks20” to take 20% off your order!

So. Flipping. Good. My DH, who is usually meh on soups, ate it for dinner last night. Loved it. Then had leftovers for breakfast. Leftover soup for breakfast. Totally unheard of.

  1. I love Veronica Mars. I watched the three seasons and the movie several years ago and when I heard they were rebooting for a fourth season, I rewatched them all and read the two books. Season 4 is so good. I’m hoping they’ll have a fifth season. No shame in watching a great show even if you aren’t the target demographic.

  2. I’m 47 and just binge watched the entire Veronica Mars series. AND I busted my 53yr old husband in my Hulu watching some season two????????. I had to kick him out of my profile so I could watch it in bed. (Bad habit I know) LOVE the new adulty season so much!  The new Nancy Drew first episode was good. I think I’m going to love it too! Try it, you know you want to!

    • Haha, he’s in soooo much trouble! My friend Anne and I share a Hulu account and she used to go into my profile and fill it with the stupidest shows ever. Such a brat.

I think I’m towards the end of season 3 and looking forward to the adult version too. Now that The Good Place is in its final season and Frozen 2 has been finished, I bet Kristen Bell has more time to make additional Veronica Mars seasons happy.

  3. Love Veronica Mars!

  4. I’ve never even heard of Veronica Mars!

Right after Valentino was born I started watching supernatural. My oldest daughter got really into it and we ended up going to a few conventions. Expensive but a lot of fun. It was cute watching her fangirl. I also got into vampire diaries. That was embarrassing for me to admit. But it was a time of a lot of upheaval and it was nice to lose my worries in some television for a while 😉

    • Good to know I’m not the only adult just now watching vampire diaries. ????

      • Haha 🙂 it’s a cute show! I even rented some of the books at the library last winter. They get a little strange. But it’s ya fiction, so..
also, my 8 year old sons name is Salvatore (that was before I started watching the shows) but my two month old baby’s nickname is Enzo. It is too cute.

    • I think it was like 2003-2006 (ish)?

I’ve never seen Supernatural before but I know it has a great cult following. How fun to share that with your daughter!

  5. I don’t have cable and I don’t bother with streaming.  I watch exactly one TV show (that I get harassed about), and I will absolutely NOT judge anyone for enjoying any show.  (A couple years ago, someone loaned us the entire DVD series of Breaking Bad and we loved it.  I may need to borrow my daughter’s Netflix because I hear that they rebooted it, or made a movie or something.  I may need to watch THAT)
Hubby got an unofficial set of the entire Muppet Show series, including Muppets Tonight for an occasion (his birthday maybe?).  We have been watching THAT for months. We are almost done, sadly.

You sew.  Could you make a deal with Bennett that you will make him pants, but he has to promise to wear them if you do it!.  Maybe he gets to choose the fabric (from a pile you have pre-selected!) and gets to help (if he wants to).  Being a part of the design team might make him wear them?

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving here, so there will be a lot of turkey on the menu next week.

    I love your egg “cartons”!

    • I love making my way through series on DVDs! When we lived in LA we had an elliptical in the garage and these were the days before wi-fi so we had a mini DVD player set up down there. Watching episodes of old shows was motivating to go down and work out.

I don’t make clothes and a promise from a 3-year-old is like peeing in the wind. LOL.

      Happy belated Thanksgiving!

      • You should try making him some pants!  Maybe without the promise (I momentarily forgot he was 3….).  I don’t sew well at all, but I made myself a part of pyjama pants that turned out pretty good, and I used existing pants as the “pattern”  You’d be able to do the waist and cuffs the way he likes them that way.  And if they are imperfect, do we really care that much? (the less ‘perfect’, the more he will like them, probably)
There is no show in the world that will ever be able to motivate me enough to use an elliptical (or a treadmill).  We let our daughter take our machine with her when she moved out, we loved it THAT much.  (Hubby still has, and likes the treadmill)

  6. I am one of those people that love Veronica Mars to the point of obsession….. to the point that my husband can even quote parts of the show (and does…). Glad you are enjoying it!

  7. yassss veronica mars! i watched it a couple years ago and loved it. It’s like a time machine back to high school (but not really because what highschoolers have that kind of crazy autonomy and drama?).

    • You’re so right on the autonomy! And um, didn’t Veronica have a freaking pocket knife in the first episode to cut Wallace down. Who can have a pocket knife at school??

  8. No laughing or pointing from me, I think Veronica Mars is one of the best TV shoes ever made. Season 1 is perfection.

We are trying your instant pot chicken and dumplings tonight. I’ve been looking forward to it all week! Who cares that we made gumbo and my husband makes enough to feed 50 and my fridge is full of soup, I’m making more soup anyway!

    • The hair changes in season 1 were fairly dramatic!

I don’t think there is such a thing as too much soup. Hope the chicken and dumplings was worthy of fridge space! 🙂

  9. I think Old Navy almost always has fleece pants for kids? Worth a try for your sanity and they always have sales.

    • We’ve tried! We’ve found plenty of fleece pants, but they’re not the exact pants he wants. Tight waist that also has drawstrings, and legs that are fairly tight and hems that are right by his ankles.

      The child is insane.

  10. I’m so glad you are watching Veronica Mars! It is such a great show! I made your cheddar biscuits for dinner again last night. They got rave reviews as always!
