Scattered Sundays and Meal Plan

I have a process question and am so curious about your results.

When (if) you shave your legs do you shave segment by segment on the same leg, segment by segment on each leg, or the whole leg at once? I usually do segment by segment on each leg. As in I shave below the knee on the right leg (always the right leg first) and then below the knee on the left leg. Then I move on both knees, and then my thigh.

But then sometimes, maybe it is being tired, but I will shave a whole leg without even thinking about it and suddenly everything is all crazy. Routine is out the window and apparently, I’m being wild and carefree.

There are rules people!

I’m keeping it short because by the time you read this post I will have already been awake for like three hours. Jack and I are currently on a plane headed to Denver to see my bestie Anne.

We’ll be there until Friday and the lad and I am so excited to see our friends/Auntie. And I freaking love Denver. If we ever enter the Witness Protection program don’t look in Denver because it is too obvious that I’ll be there.

Before I give you the rundown on the blog crap for the week I wanted to share two things with you.

One: if you have seasonal allergies and your meds just aren’t cutting it, these Hyland’s homeopathic allergy meds have been just the thing that let me not rip my face off and pressure wash it. My dad bought them to try and both Troy and I are big fans.

Two: I have a girl crush. If you’re part of the Sustainable Cooks Facebook community you’ll see a post I shared yesterday from Hey Nutrition Lady.

I came across her blog recently and saw her use the term “healthy AF” and it was instant blog-traction. Check out her site and I think you’ll like what you see.

Meal Plan

Nothing! Because we’re in Denver and my husband is a grown ass man capable of feeding Bennett.

I think? Yes. It will be fine.

  1. Enjoy your trip! Enjoy the *one child who can fend for himself* responsibility…

1)- I shave 1 entire leg at a time. Then I switch to the other. Easy Peasy..

    2) I love that you did not micromanage the husband and toddler and try to pre-plan every moment you are gone… Way to treat the husband like an adult and not reduce him to 3rd child status like so many do!!!

    Have a great trip!

    • Dude, Jessica, it has been so great. We got the airport and I didn’t have to chase anyone around while we stood in the stupid long line. I was able to pee while Jack watched our stuff and visa versa. The best.

I figure if the state of Washington considers Troy capable enough of putting out a fire and saving lives, I suppose he can keep a two-year-old alive for six days!

  2. Whole leg, segment by segment, right leg always first. Don’t be an anarchist. 😀😀

  3. Oh my gosh!!! I just found those Hyland Allergy meds a week ago and they are helping me so much! I literally was either walking around the house dripping all day or zonked out with NyQuil (the only med that was stopping the drip). I didn’t realize Amazon sells them and at a much better price, too! Thanks for sharing!!!

  4. I Epilate section by section under the knee, then the knees and then work my way up til I can’t handle the pain/sting.

Hope you have a GREAT time w your bestie and come home refreshed.

I agree w the other commenter – good for you on not preparing and organizing the whole week for your hubby. It’s like hearing a dad say in that annoying voice “I can’t, I have to babysit”. Ummmmm – no it’s called parenting. Too many women don’t step back and let the man step up.  Sure it’s done “your way” but sometimes that’s when the best memories happen.
But maybe that’s just me and my crazy thought process!

    • Jan how long do those results last? I remember it being a big thing in the 80’s (when I wasn’t yet shaving) but find I don’t hear too much about it anymore.

If it was Troy with both boys then I definitely would have left some food prepared. Both of them for 6 days is a lot to handle. But Bennett loves sandwiches (Troy’s favorite food) so I assume as long as they have those fixin’ they will be fine.

      • For me when I epilate regularly it’s baby butt smooth for over a week. My hair grows back in much slower and finer. Almost cautious growth like it’s afraid I’ll be back to rip it out again, lol. I watch something on my iPad or listen to a podcast while doing it. Takes no longer than shaving but I can do it wet or dry.
Haven’t been brave enough to try the underarms or whole bikini area. That’s my next goal.

  5. Looooongtime reader, but I am pretty sure this is my first comment. WHY leg-shaving prompted me, I will never know. I shave segment by segment on each leg starting with my left. I love your blog and can everything you tell us to 🙂

  6. You had me at cardamom!! Lol As far as leg shaving goes I have about 10 hairs on each leg, I just tweeze. 🤣 Please try not to hate my hairless legs, I was born this way.

  7. I hope you have a fabulous trip! You have reinforced my overnight oats kick. I have never tried them with chocolate before. I am excited to try the noodle recipe that you linked last week. It looks yummy. I am currently obsessed with this sweet potato noodle dish – made without the curry powder https://www.halfbakedharvest.com/singapore-sweet-potato-noodles/ . I am serving them cold for dinner tonight.

    • Oh, I love sweet potato noodles but cannot stand curry. Are you subbing in something else or just leaving it without?

I started making sweet potato noodles during our Whole30 and still need to write up the recipe I made.

  8. I find it hilarious on the leg shaving timing. I haven’t shaved my legs in well over a year. First it was just being lazy, then it became a silent challenge to see how long till the hubby noticed/said something. That happened about two weeks ago.
When I did shave, it was one leg at a time. I’d alternate which leg I started with so that each leg got the ‘first’ shave every other time.
My life is so much easier (but hairier) now!

We found out we are moving to California in May, so the kiddo and I are going out for a visit in January or February. I’m already worried about leaving the dog with the hubby.

    Enjoy your visit!!

  9. Oh, whole leg all the way, segment by segment. But I have joined the waxing brigade in the last 6 months and wonder each time why I put myself through the pain. Having dark hair though, there was about a half day window when I appeared hairless and I hated it for years…

    • Ah, you sound like my sister. A five-o’clock shadow by noon.

How long does the results of waxing last?

      • Haha – I get it done every 4 1/2 weeks and the last half week or so it a little scary for the general population, but can usually hide it with pants (40 degree heat though at the start of the year was a little challenging!)

  10. Don’t miss shaving my legs at all. Yay menopause! Used to shave one leg at a time – always started with the left and went the whole way up in one stroke. As I’m left handed, and the other hand is virtually useless, at least I got through one leg before making a mess of my right leg.

Love the dude t-shirt. Have a fantastic week!

    • I love how everyone has such a different routine!

He loves that shirt but it is getting waaaaay too small. My cousin is deaf so he thinks it is a pretty rad shirt.

  11. I’m with you – segment by segment on each leg. Right leg thigh; left leg thigh. Right knee and then left. And then below the knee in the same fashion. I used to be a whole leg kinda girl but as I’ve gotten older (read: lazier), I’ve found that the segmented method gives me the option to decide not to continue on with the whole leg if I so choose. 🙂

  12. postscript: Love Bennett’s shirt. 🙂

    • Hee hee, thanks. He is the last cousin on one side of the family so we let him wear whatever is in the hand-me-down bins. He loves the rainbow unicorns and they fit!

So want to know something crazy? I’m at my friend’s house and her shower is a lot bigger of mine with a ledge in the shower. I shaved my whole leg without even thinking about it. Here’s the thing – it is because I was able to keep my leg out of the stream of water the whole time. My shower at home is pretty small so I’m wondering if my shaving is more based on space limitations in my own shower.

  13. After shaving for 20 years (since I was 8, seriously) I’m a completely converted waxer. I’ve been waxing for ~8 months and do everything from my eyebrows down and LOVVVEEE IT

I have crazy dark and thick hair that would grow back in 8 or so hours after shaving. With waxing I normally go every 3ish weeks in the summer and 4ish weeks in the winter, where as most people can do 4-5 weeks. My hair grows back super fast even with waxing ugh.

When I was a shaver it was left lower leg, right lower leg, left knee and thigh, then right knee and thigh.

    • You sound like my sister. So much dark hair and such a pain to keep it in control! I’m glad you have found something that works for you.
