Scattered Sundays and Meal Plan

You guys.

Guess what I did yesterday.

I stayed in bed until 7:30 am!! I felt like I was an heiress or a socialite. Regardless of the day, I get up between 4:30 and 5 am to go downstairs to give my mom a hand. There are a few days a month where I could come back upstairs and try to go back to sleep, but my body hates me and usually refuses. Friday night I took the first Unisom I have taken in over two years. That magical little pill not only helped me sleep all night, but gave me the power to crawl back in to bed Saturday morning and fall back asleep.

Bennett woke up at 6 am, and Troy said “I’ll get him”. I think he was shocked when I said “great”, wiggled over to the middle of the bed and went back to sleep. Troy is the sleep-in parent in this house, and I can probably count on two hands the number of times I stayed in bed and he got up. I remember back when Jack was three, I decided to sleep in. I heard his scared little voice ask Troy “is Momma dead?” when Troy was the one who got him up with him.

So 7:30. Big deal. Big. Huge.

There comes a time in every woman’s life when she knows when she has found “the one”. There is such a thing as a perfect mate, and the lucky ones will find theirs as early as possible. I recently found mine.

A few months ago, I asked for a recommendation on your comfiest shoes that would look cute with shorts. I got so many ideas and brands to try, so thank you! I tried on as many as I could find, and nothing really clicked unfortunately. I have a high in-step and the tops of shoes really dig in to my feet if I’m not careful. I have a pair of Vans that I love, but for the life of me I can’t wear them without socks.

Jack and I were at Famous Footwear and I happened across these Dr. Scholls shoes. I tried them on and they were freaking heaven. It was like they were lined with the nut sacks of chinchillas. Yeah, that soft. The color options were limited, but I found the same shoe in that super cute pattern above on Amazon. My feet have never been happier, and I love them so much. I also got a three pack of these terry insoles for my Toms and other shoes, and they’re wonderful. If you have sweaty feet, these things are little absorbent miracles. Sweaty feet and a high instep…sounds like the start of an awesome Tinder profile! Swipe right, swipe right!

Guess who is turning 40 this week? Calves McGee!

I’m thinking that maybe I should turn off NPR in the car?

We had dinner at our neighbor’s last night, and I think I am still stuffed. She is from Guatemala, and made taquitos, homemade roasted tomatillo salsa, and homemade queso fresca. And then there was flan for dessert. I wish I could eat it all over again. Why won’t someone make me that for dinner at least once a week?

Jack and I gave Bennett a hair cut this week. Jack held the ipad with Youtube videos of silly kids, and I did the cutting. It was my first time using clippers on Bennett, and it’s kinda choppy, but he’s a wiggly toddler, so what are you going to do?

As part of the plan to rework and rebrand my blog, I did something I have a really hard time doing. I asked for help. My in-laws took Bennett for most of the day on Friday while I holed up at a Panera to eat soup and use their wi-fi. I worked non-stop on updating an old post and trying to learn more about SEO. They are also taking him next week for five hours. And next Tuesday I have a four hour car service scheduled. “Old” me would have arranged for a loaner car, come home, and did work around the house. “New” me checked to see if the place had wi-fi, and I’m bringing my laptop to get more uninterrupted work time.

It was interesting to pack Bennett his first big boy lunch for a day at Grammy and Grampy’s. We were recently given a new larger Yumbox tapas from the nice people at Yumbox, so Jack upgraded to the bigger box for school.  Bennett got Jack’s old Yumbox, and he seemed to think it was pretty cool.

I have stocked my Etsy shop with some fun new bags. I’m hunkered down in the sewing closet a few days a week working on a big “Christmas/Hanukkah” sale for July. The holiday fabrics are fun, but seem so out of place with the summery weather.

  1. Congrats on sleeping in! Sometimes you need it. I am usually up between 6-7am. If I went to bed before 11pm I might get up earlier but I am retired and don.t have to chase or coral a toddler every day so I manage to get things done on my timeline.
Our menu for this week is
Monday–BBQ beef, fried potatoes and leftover roasted veggies and/or green beans.
Tuesday–meatballs in gravy, mashed potatoes and corn
    Wednesday–leftovers or Taco salad
Thursday–salad with chicken and veggies and rolls
    Friday–leftovers
Saturday–burgers and potato wedges and broccoli
    Sunday–ham, sweet potatoes, and asparagus

Thanks for the humor in your posts. It makes me smile!

  2. That pic of B with his new haircut is so adorable! And Jack may have a career as a war correspondent or GI Joe – the real American Hero.

Do you remember that 90s Rice Krispies Treats commerical? The one where the lady wants her family to think she’s taken all day to make ’em? (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWZXoGZijH4) That’s how I feel about your recipe. Looks amazing, seems incredibly simple and I ain’t telling nobody. I want all the glory. 🙂

    My menu this week is:
Sunday: Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, fried okra, biscuits and gravy. I even gilded the lily and made a chocolate cake, too. It was sooo good.
    Monday: Beans and cornbread
    Tuesday: Salmon cakes, pasta salad
Wednesday: Chicken alfredo, copycat Red Lobster cheddar biscuits, salad
Thursday: Sloppy Joes (Pioneer Woman recipe), oven baked fries, salad
    Friday: Fend For Yourself (FFY)
Saturday: Homemade pizzas (pepperoni and cheese) and wings

  3. *not to scale – made me laugh!

  4. Where do u buy Unisom?

  5. I would love printable meal plans if you could pull it off!

    T- Lasagna, garlic bread
W-Hot dogs, sausages, baked beans, brown bread w/ raisins, coleslaw
    Th-Buffet at Home aka: leftovers
    F- Dinner out
    S-Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, applesauce
Su- Will be stuffed green peppers, rice, fruit

  6. I slept in until 838am this morning.. that only sounds amazing if you don’t know we took the kids to the double feature drive in and did not turn off the bedroom lamp until 300am! wahhh! Oh well that is summer break for ya!
I spent some time organizing the freezers this week and have a list on the door to help the kids learn to plan and prepare meals! Youngest son wants steak so he will be grilling that Monday night if rains stops in the morning like predicted- will add sweet potatos to that.
The rest of the week is yet to be determined!

    • Oh man, I remember those drive in nights in the summer! In the PNW, it doesn’t get dark in the summer until 9:30, so drive in movies start LATE.

I love that the kids are participating…either by force or desire.

  7. Oh. My. Goodness!
I slept last weekend until 08:30–usually up around 04:30 when the the rest of the blogging world seems to also arise! 😉
Loved your comments about trying to find shoes. High instep volume + super high arches = $$$spendy shoes. Ugh. I’m sticking so far with New Balance on sale, as I also run and work doesn’t mind if I show up in running shoes. Plus, I’m more likely to stick with a run at lunchtime.

Supper here is a hard subject lately. I’ll have to work on that! Thank you for an inspiring week of dinner ideas!

  8. Monday – Popcorn for dinner rounded out with veggie sticks, frozen peanut butter chocolate milk and odds and ends that need to be cleared out of the fridge

    Tuesday – taco salad

Wednesday – summer cold dinner – aka deviled eggs, veggie sticks, cheese and whatever else sounds good on a hot night that can easily be found in the fridge

Thursday – five cheese ravioli with cannellini bean tomato sauce (I blend the beans into the sauce because it adds protein and fiber while decreasing the acidity of the sauce)

Friday – Falafel or grilled pizza – I will grill the drier day

Saturday either Falafel or grilled pizza – if both days are rainy I dunno
