Scattered Sundays and Meal Plan for April 3rd – 9th

Does anyone else watch The Last Man on Earth? You can get episodes on Hulu, and I need someone to watch it and discuss it with me. It’s so well done, but painfully awkward. I usually don’t like shows where characters make me feel embarrassed for them, but Will Forte is a genius and can toe the line and keep me on his side. I cringe, I laugh, and I can’t wait for more.

That’s what she said.

But seriously, you need to check out the show and report back to me. Please.

What are the most comfortable casual shoes you own that look good with shorts? I feel like wearing running shoes with non-workout shorts looks super dorky on me. I need an all day shoe that I can wear (wait for it) all day with casual clothes. I can and have worn Toms while walking 22k steps in a day. But I don’t like wearing Toms with shorts. So help me out please! And no need to recommend Birkenstocks. They make me look like I have hobbit feet.

The boys had half days this week, so on Thursday we “zooed” to get out of the house and keep the cousins from choking each other out.  And we also hit up some parks and enjoyed the sunshine.

Growing up we always had kid and family birthday parties. Friends came to the kid parties, and aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins came to the family parties. We have been doing something similar for Jack thus far. He was lucky enough to have a birthday over spring break, so we took advantage of the timing and are taking a few of his friends to the movies. Tuesday happens to be $5 movie day at our local theater, and if you are a member of their reward club, you get a large popcorn for $2. So, for about $40, I won’t have my house overrun with second graders. Boom, for the win.

I started heavily working on Jack’s birthday quilt this week, and I actually think I will be finished with it by Tuesday. Last week I assumed I would never get it done before his family party, so I’m amazed and kinda proud that it is almost complete. As I was piecing some of the squares together, I had a realization hit me that Jack may not like it because it is Star Wars and he is suddenly in to Pokemon these days. Picturing some sort of snotty reaction from him, I actually got pissed. For something he hadn’t even done. But, to make sure I had a back up plan, I decided if he turns his nose up at it, I’m marching my ass down to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma and donating it. Those are the nice people who took care of Jack in December 2015 when he was admitted for his intestinal issues. S

If you need a deep and hearty belly laugh, check out this article my friend sent me. So very good.

Meal plan time!

Monday:: Smith Brothers has asparagus ravioli in stock for April. Holy smokes, I can’t even waiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit! I’m going to make a light lemony cream sauce to drizzle over it. The secret ingredient will be drool, because I’m so excited about this. Big ole salad on the side. And drool.

Tuesday:: Jack is turning eight on Tuesday. EIGHT. He requested pizza. Even though we totally had it last week. Salad on the side.

Wednesday:: Breakfast dinner!

Thursday:: Chicken gnocchi soup. I have a head (bunch? Gaggle? Passel?) of celery that is losing its crunch, and needs to be soup. Biscuits and salad on the side.

Friday:: Popcorn and movie night.

Saturday:: Salmon cakes, leftover biscuits, and frozen peas. But we’ll you know, cook them.

Sunday:: Jack’s family birthday party is this afternoon, so we’ll be eating the leftovers for dinner.

Smith Brothers – $19.65.

Costco – $40.89

Grocery store – $32.65. Premade food is expensive! 🙁

What are you having this week?

  1. I have several pair of Skechers Reggae-Rasta – that is how they are listed on Amazon. I have 4 pair – a friend recommended them for arch support. I love them. Black, brown, green camou (yeah, I live in the country) and grey. I have found them all under $30 a pair at various times on Amazon. I wear them all summer. I have even washed 2 pair that got really dusty in the dust bowl of 2016 here in GA. Just soaked them in my laundry tub and dried outside. Great support for your foot, lots of colors to choose from and they look nice.

  2. Another vote for Skechers. I wear the go-walks and love them so much that my husband also started wearing the men’s go-walks. Nearly 40000 steps at Disney two weeks ago and my feet still felt great!

  3. Sanuks look good with everything!

  4. Teva sandles with shorts are my standby. They have enough support to even do small hikes with them. Clarke sandles are also excellent for those times you would like something a little ‘dressier’.

  5. We watched a bunch of Last Man on Earth this weekend! On NetFlix. Brilliantly done. Like you said Will Forte knows exactly how far to take it. He pushes it to the point where you really can’t bear his character any more and then manages to pull you back in by some small redeeming act. Not sure about the margharita pool tho…. We alternated it with Life in Pieces which was also excellent.

    • He’s so good, isn’t he? I think I watched one episode of Life in Pieces, but I was really tired. I should try it again when I am alert.

  6. Love my Sperry loafers. A bit more but they last a long time.

    • I am always willing to spend more money on shoes, because I wear them forever. And my family has horrible feet; I’m willing to invest in quality for my hooves!

  7. Last summer I bought a pair of gray jersey Keds and wore them with everything.

Today: Chili and baked potatoes, because it’s my middle daughter’s birthday and that’s what she requested.

Monday: Cilantro lime chicken tacos because it’s my oldest daughter’s birthday and that’s what she wants. (Thankfully daughter #3 was born in November!)

Tuesday: Gnocchi with homemade pasta sauce and Costco chicken meatballs

    Wednesday: Coconut chicken curry

Thursday: Going out for Indian food and to see Passenger in concert! The children will undoubtedly eat pizza at my mom’s.

    Friday: Burrito bowl

    Saturday: Family wedding reception

It’s not often I have two no-cook days in a week! Yay for me!

  8. Love that blog from the 70’s. ROTFL. Re the celery, I have started using it as a veggie… slice it into chunks and sautee it with dashes of soy sauce and sesame oil, toss in some cashews or almonds if you have any around and pouf …. almost chinese.

  9. Chacos. All the way.

    • I had a pair of Chacos a long time ago. They destroyed my feet. I wore them and could barely walk afterwards. Thought maybe it was a “they need to be broken in” kind of thing, so I gave them time and tried again. Same darn thing. I was so sad because I spent a ton on them.

  10. FYI: Stalk of celery is one, BUN of celery is the whole shebang.

I love Bennett’s eyes; always so joyful.

I like Sketchers’ slip-ons, which come in a bizillion styles. I get black with black soles, which look less sporty to me. Perhaps some of the styles that look like ballet slippers will suit you. The soles do wear quickly. If you get some now, by the end of summer you will be thinking they are your kicking around shoes. But very comfortable. I wear my newer ones out and my older ones inside.

We are “doing” Greek Salad this week. I’m busy, it’s easy and tomatoes are starting to look good again.
