Small Business Showcase #4
It used to be my only goal was to get the best deal possible. Clothing, kitchen stuff, whatever – didn’t matter, I was on a mission to get a steal. My mindset has shifted a bit. I still love a sweet score, but I have also developed a passion for shopping locally and supporting small businesses whenever possible. That is why I started Small Business Showcase, to give back and highlight some of the hard working readers who frequent this blog.
Today’s small business is Mary Mary Quite Contrary.
1) Give us your best 30 second “elevator pitch” about your business. What it is, why it’s unique, and what motivates you to do the work?
I started making baby quilts and blankets in 2011, and have expanded to include many more items. I will pretty much do whatever catches my interest. Doing a variety of things helps to keep me from getting bored, too!
2) Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m a stay/work at home single mama to 6 lovely and loud kiddos in the pacific northwest. My oldest is 16 and my youngest just turned 1. I have always loved sewing and working with my hands. I went to school for massage therapy but since graduating I had one child after another so I wasn’t able to find the time to get my license. After making things through the years for my own children, I started my home business, Mary Mary Quite Contrary (www.etsy.com/shop/maryeguad).
3) What has been your favorite item to make or sell?
I think my favorite things to make are the items that turn into someone’s cherished keepsake. It could be a crown, a blanket, or a sweet new baby outfit. I love making things for people knowing it will be something loved for years to come and someday may be passed down to their children as well.
