Sugar fast/exercise challenge. Come jump off the deep end with me!

After being off of sugar for a week, and then going back to it, I can tell you I feel like crap.  I know Troy has a sugar problem, so he wants to do a one week fast, and I agreed to do one with him.  Well, technically his idea of a fast was like 12 hours, and he was not keen on a whole week, but I explained to him that half of a day wasn’t really a decent fast.

I know I can do this, so to up the personal challenge, I’m going to start doing P-90x discs that I borrowed from my father-in-law.  I need to schedule all my posts now, as I have a feeling I won’t be able to move my arms come Tuesday.

If anyone wants to join in with us, please leave a comment and let everyone know what you’re going to be doing/giving up/etc.  As with any challenge I run, you set your own parameters.  I am giving up sweets, but this time I will get vanilla flavoring in my once a week decaff latte.  It’s my one treat each week, and after drinking it unflavored last time, I realized coffee tastes like shit.  Also, this time I will allow myself my nightly glass of water kefir soda.  It has almost zero sugar in it after the grains do their work, and I just love that bit of sparkling goodness at the end of a long day.

  1. I’ll join you! I’ll be exercising with one of my Wii games daily. I had surgery, so I have to be gentle. But I’m going for it!

  2. going to try a week of juicing detox…..and the Wii plan of Laurinda is a good idea too.

  3. I’m going on a sugar fast and also giving up diet coke.

  4. I gave up soda (all pop products) in late December. Since then, I have had the occasional craving but it really hasn’t been too bad. I also tried to do a 21 day Sugar Challenge. It sucked. I would really like to try again. On the 21 day sugar challenge there are lots of things you can’t eat. Such as grains, sugar, alcohol, any processed anything etc. It is really hard. I would love to try again. I always give in especially when we have carry ins at work. Nobody brings a yummy salad- if you know what I mean! So, I guess I am in! Are there certain parameters or is it just really what we think we should do?

    • I could never give up fruit. I get the idea behind giving up all those things, but I don’t know if I’d want to even try it!

      No parameters – just do whatever you think is best for you!

  5. I’m joining in too. Only the no snacks and no junk food stuff though. Planned on going to the gym or exercising at home for 30 min (my gym has a program for 30 min 3x a week), unfortunately I woke up with a sore back (felt like a nerve or muscle was stuck) and don’t want to get it worse.

  6. I will be joining you in giving up sugar. I have been Crossfitting since May 13th so I think this will totally help!! I am already seeing results!!

  7. How about I represent Arkansas by sugar fasting as well. No soda’s, no junk food, just naturally occurring sugar (cause lets face it…I’m a fruit junky.) Been trying to get the hubby and I to go clean/paleo eating and this should just jump start him!

  8. I’m in! I’ve been getting major peaks and crashes in energy and fuzziness after months of eating chocolate or biscuits every day as a ‘reward’ when I’m at work (I’m in the process of changing jobs – it’s super unsatisfying right now). I’ve cut out all sugary treats – cakes, cookies, chocolate bars, juices. It’s amazing how many items I’ve noticed contain sugar – crisps (chips), bread, curry paste?! Fruit is still in, as long as it’s not juiced.

    I’m in a week and a half in. I found days 4 & 5 the most difficult with energy and craving but I’m so glad I’ve done it. I sleep more deeply, and my energy doesn’t ping up and down all the time. I’m even less hungry during the day, and crave fruit more than treat things (Still the occasional pang for chocolagte on a rubbish day) Good luck!
