Billy Joel might have said it best, when he sang “good luck moving up, cause I’m moving out”. Things look a wee bit different round these parts, yes?
It’s moving day!!! I’ve been waiting for this day for over a month and I wanted to tell you guys about 480 times a day, but I didn’t. I didn’t!
After almost four years (FOUR) of writing under the Blogger platform, I finally took the plunge, wrote a check, and puked in my mouth a bit and went to a self-hosted platform.
That’s right folks, I’m a big girl now.
What does this mean? Would you judge me if I said I have NO idea, other than the fact that I am currently broke? The site just went live tonight, and I haven’t even had time to kick the tires (or light the fires, right Goose?) around here. I literally have no clue where anything is stored, or even how to really find a thing. Tech savvy I am not! I know there are still blank spots that say things like “add links here”.
What does this mean for you? Um, not sure on that one either. I do know it will/should be easier to comment (hint hint), and god willing, it will be easier for you to navigate. And now you can find my blog without having to type in “.blogspot.com”, because that was so exhausting! Right? First world problems, huh?
I’d like to thank a few people for their help and extreme patience (you have no clue how stupid I am with this stuff) over the last week or so. My friend Kat, who designed the photo banner and saved me mucho bucks. And Matt Z, at WPsitecare who not only did everything else, but never once made me feel like an idiot.
Even though I was.
He handled everything, and was digitally holding my hand tonight as everything was transferring over. This man needs to be canonized because he is saint for putting up with me. Sample emails from tonight:
Me: um, I noticed that when someone clicks on my Facebook page to like it from the new site, it doesn’t open in a new window thingy which takes people away from my blog page. Can you fix that thingy please?
Matt: I’ll take care of it (likely internal dialog: “thingy”???)
Me: hey, Sarah here again, I can’t believe it’s been more than 32.5 seconds since I last emailed you! I’m sure you’re not busy doing anything else right now, right? So, how’s it going? Does it look good? Does it look pretty?
Matt: You sure have a lot of photos. The transfer is taking a little longer than expected, but things are progressing nicely (likely internal dialog: “damn, this girl is a terrible photographer! Oh, there is a semi-decent photo here…oh wait, that was taken by her 5 year old”).
Me: So, I know you’re like almost done with everything, but can you also add “pin it” and “facebook” codes to the posts so that I don’t have to physically do that each time?
Matt: Sure, I can add some plug ins to make that work for you (likely internal dialog: “I will not punch a client, I will NOT punch a client, I will NOT punch a client”).
Matt was seriously a rockstar, and his help was so invaluable during this process. Thank you Matt! If you are looking to make the leap, I highly recommend WPsitecare. And ask for Matt Z!
Lots of things are going to be tweaked over the next few days (coughweekscough) while I try to figure this whole new place out. Please bear with me (grrrrrrrrowl) as I attempt (HA) to navigate my way in this new platform.
Hopefully it goes semi-smoothly so that nobody has a heart attack ack ack ack ack ack. Goodness gracious, I can’t believe you guys actually read this crap. You ”otta know by now” that I’m a total loser.
Maybe I can lure you back to reading with a “bottle of red and a bottle of white”?
Where are you going…?
