Air fryer shishito peppers are THE recipe that can change a pepper hater into a pepper lover!

And how do I know? I was once that pepper hater. I thought all peppers taste like how burps smell (I still think this about green bell peppers), but shishito peppers changed my mind.

Also, sorry for the smelly burp analogy that is now stuck in your mind for the rest of the day. I regret nothing and everything.

A cool and creamy dipping sauce pairs best with your shishito peppers in the air fryer. Choose a chipotle mayo or our chipotle Southwest sauce and go live your best pepper-based life.

Ingredient Highlight

Shishito peppers are generally not considered hot/spicy.

But, beware because one shishito pepper in every ten(ish) can be spicy.  It is kind of a fun game of chicken while you’re happily chomping them during dinner.

Pro tips/Recipe Notes

  • If you skip the step of preheating the air fryer, your shishito peppers might become a bit soggy. They need a HOT preheated air fryer basket for the best results.
  • Toasted sesame oil is a safe high-heat oil. Plus, it’s freaking delicious.

You're going to love this easy and quick air fryer shishito peppers recipe! Perfectly seasoned and ready in just 10 minutes, this air fryer appetizer will become a favorite homemade snack.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound shishito peppers {rinsed and patted dry}
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • pinch Kosher salt
  • sesame seeds {optional}

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer at 400˚F for 4 minutes.
  • In a medium bowl, toss peppers with sesame oil.
    1 pound shishito peppers, 1 tsp toasted sesame oil
  • Add the peppers to the basket of air fryer.
  • Cook at 400˚F for 7-10 minutes, shaking the basket midway. Cooking time will depend on the size of your peppers and how "done" you want them.
  • Add the peppers to a bowl and toss with soy sauce. Sprinkle with a bit of kosher salt and sesame seeds.
    1 tsp soy sauce, pinch Kosher salt, sesame seeds

Notes

The key to getting an amazing blister without making the peppers soggy is to cook them fast and hot. You want a high temp and a very hot preheated air fryer so they start cooking the second they hit the pan.
