This recipe is rocking:
- Boneless skinless chicken breast (we get ours from ButcherBox)
- Oil – olive or avocado work great
- Fajitas seasoning – we used homemade Gluten-Free Taco Seasoning
- Veggies – sliced onions and peppers (save any extras for freezing onions, drying peppers or freezing peppers)
How to Make Chicken Fajitas in the Air Fryer
I’ll walk you through it with some tips and tricks and photos, and you’ll find a printable recipe card at the bottom of the post with exact measurements and cooking times.
Start by slicing the chicken against the grain and toss with fajitas seasoning and 2 tsp of olive oil.
Brush some olive oil in your air fryer basket and add the chicken. Cook at 400F for 5 minutes.
While the chicken is cooking, toss the onions and peppers with a bit more olive oil. Add the veggies to the chicken, stir the whole mixture up, and cook for an additional 8 minutes or until the chicken reaches 165F.
What to Serve With Chicken Fajitas in the Air Fryer
Need ideas to make this a complete meal? Serve alongside tortillas (or Baked Tortilla Bowls), Instant Pot Cilantro Lime Rice, and Spicy Instant Pot Black Beans, or place on top of Kale Chopped Salad or Instant Pot Steamed Broccoli for a gluten-free meal.
Top with Chipotle Sauce, sour cream, plain homemade Greek yogurt, salsa, or Avocado Yogurt Dip.
Pro Tips/Recipe Notes
- If using storebought fajitas mix, the 1 oz size envelope will make one batch of these fajitas.
- Try to cut the chicken to a uniform size to get even cooking results.
- If you want to prep the onions and peppers to marinate with the chicken, cut them slightly larger than normal to prevent burning during the longer cooking time.
- If you double the recipe or your air fryer is smaller, you may need to cook in batches. Place finished fajitas in a clean bowl and cover with a plate or tent with foil to keep the chicken warm while the second batch cooks.
- All air fryers will cook differently. The only way to guarantee your chicken is cooked is to use a meat thermometer. Chicken is safe to eat when the internal temp is 165F degrees.

Yes! For freezing cooked fajitas, allow everything to cool and then transfer to freezer-safe storage like Souper Cubes.
For freezing uncooked fajitas, prep and freeze marinated but uncooked chicken breasts in Stasher bags, use a vacuum sealer, or other freezer-safe containers.
To cook frozen uncooked chicken fajitas – place the bag in a bowl and defrost in the fridge overnight. Cooking time remains the same.

What type of tortillas are you using to be Whole30 compliant?
Sadly, there are no tortillas that are Whole30 approved. Within the body of the post, it recommends what to serve with the fajitas to make them a compliant complete meal (I recommend a big salad or roasted veggies).
These fajitas are fantastic! I was a little skeptical that the chicken would come out dry but it didn’t! The flavor was fantastic and everything cooked perfectly! This is going in rotation at my house!
You mention parchment paper in list of equipment but not.mentioned in recipe?
It’s optional. 🙂 Makes for quick clean up, but you can also just brush the basket with olive oil.
