Pro Tips/Recipe Notes
- If you cut the onions too thinly, they’ll cook down faster, but will become mush.
- If you’re like me and onions make you cry your face off, putting them in the fridge for 40-60 minutes before cutting them will greatly reduce the tears.
- The baking soda can add a bitter aftertaste if you use too much. I don’t recommend exceeding 1/4 tsp.

Easy Slow Cooker Caramelized Onions

Ingredients
- 6 tbsp unsalted butter
- 8 cups onions, sliced {~5 large onions}
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 2 sprigs fresh thyme
- 1/4 tsp baking soda {optional}
Instructions
- Add all the ingredients to the slow cooker.6 tbsp unsalted butter, 8 cups onions, sliced, 1 tsp sea salt, 1/4 tsp baking soda, 2 sprigs fresh thyme
- Set the slow cooker to low, and stir gently every hour.
- Allow the onions to cook for 4-5 hours or until they're cooked to your preference.
- Discard thyme stems before serving.
