Crab cakes are an incredible appetizer or entree, but sometimes making your own can take too long. Thankfully, frozen crab cakes are available at almost all grocery stores, and they cook so well in the air fryer.

Thanks to the air fryer, they’re crispy on the outside and flaky and tender on the inside.

These tasty little morsels pair amazingly well with homemade tartar sauce or homemade southwest chipotle sauce.

How to cook frozen crab cakes in the air fryer

Step one:

Preheat the air fryer at 370˚F for 2 minutes. This is one of the rare air fryer recipes that I have where I recommend preheating.

Step Two:

Brush the air fryer basket with olive oil or line it with a piece of air fryer parchment.

Place the frozen crab cakes in the basket; that’s right – don’t defrost those bad boys! It’s ok to fill the basket but don’t let the crab cakes touch. You need air to circulate around them.

Step Three:

Cook at 370˚F for 7 minutes for mini crab cakes or 9 minutes for entree-sized crab cakes.

Step four:

Allow those lovely crab cakes to rest in the air fryer for 1-2 minutes before serving. Serve them with a wedge of lemon and go live your best life.

Pro Tips/Recipe Notes

  • Do not thaw the crab cakes prior to cooking.
  • Brush olive oil or use air fryer parchment in the basket to prevent the crab cakes from sticking.
  • Do preheat the air fryer for 2 minutes. This will give you the crispiest crab cakes ever!
  • You can reheat the crab cakes if you have leftovers. Cook for 2 minutes at 350˚F.
