If you are looking for a tasty and speedy side dish, you cannot beat these green beans in the air fryer. They’re easy to customize and “dress up” and are packed with lots of flavor.

Even better, these green beans are similar to oven-roasted green beans, but you don’t even have to turn on that energy hog!

Ingredients and Variations

a bowl of green beans, salt, and olive oil on a white board.

The print recipe card below has the exact measurements, but this recipe is rocking:

  • Green beans (surprised?)
  • Olive oil
  • Flaky sea salt

It’s a very bare-bone base recipe, but then you get to customize it to your preferences! A few suggestions: crumbled bacon, minced garlic, a splash of balsamic vinegar, red pepper flakes, and grated Parmesan cheese.

One of my favorite ways to enjoy these green beans in the air fryer is by tossing them with a splash of soy sauce and sesame oil right before serving.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Should I Use String Beans or Haricot Verts in this recipe?

You can use either! Haricot verts or thin French green beans are longer and thinner than traditional green beans.

I have used both in this recipe to great success. Haricot verts tend to cook 1-2 minutes faster than green/string beans.

What If I Like My Green Beans Soft?

No worries, you can absolutely achieve a softer texture with these green beans in the air fryer.

You can cook them a few minutes longer (check in 2-minute increments), or, if you have a basket-style air fryer, I add 2 tbsp of water to the basket when cooking the beans.

Similar to making Air Fryer Cabbage, the water in the basket helps to steam the green beans as they bake in the air fryer.

Can You Air Fry Frozen Green Beans?

Yes! Frozen green beans will not crisp up exactly the same as fresh green beans, but they’ll still be delicious.

Do not defrost the green beans before adding them to the air fryer. Cook them at 380F for 5 minutes, then season with olive oil and salt, and return to the air fryer until cooked through (~5-10 more minutes).

Can You Air Fry Green Beans From a Can?

Yes! Similar to frozen green beans, canned green beans won’t taste the same as fresh, but it’s still a great dish.

Thoroughly drain the beans in a small strainer or sieve and pat dry. Then season and cook at 380F for 5-10 minutes or until they have reached your preferred level of cooked.

How to Reheat Green Beans in the Air Fryer

Allow the cooked green beans to fully cool and then store them in an air-tight container for up to three days. Reheat in the air fryer at 350F for 2-3 minutes.

What to Serve With Air Fryer Green Beans

I like to use them as a side for my dry brined chicken, air fryer mahi mahi, Boursin pasta, air fryer cornish hensair fryer salmon cakes, or air fryer chicken tenders with no breading.

PRO TIPS/RECIPE NOTES

  • Every person prefers their veggies roasted to a specific level. Use common sense and check on your green beans during the cooking process to see what works best for you.
  • You can use olive oil cooking spray if you’d like to reduce the oil used in the recipe. You’ll want to spray the green beans in a bowl or on a plate before adding them to the air fryer. Commercial cooking sprays with propellants can damage the lining of the air fryer basket and should never be sprayed directly on the basket. Or, you can use a Misto which does not use any propellants.
