How to Freeze Pumpkin Pie

*I’ll walk you through it here with some photos and tips, and you’ll also find a printable recipe card at the bottom of the post with exact measurements, etc. You can also click “jump to recipe” to skip down.

The first step in freezing pumpkin pie is to decide if you’d like to freeze the pie whole, or in slices. A whole frozen pumpkin pie makes a lot of sense if you intend to serve it to a group.

Or, if you’re like me, and are the only one in your household who actually likes pumpkin pie, freezing it in slices allows for individual servings.

Regardless if you’re freezing it whole or in slices, you’ll want it to be fully cooled before you place it in the freezer. If the pie is still warm when it goes into the freezer, it will create a build-up of ice crystals. This will lead to freezer burn.

Freezing Pumpin Pie Whole

After the pie has completely cooled, press plastic wrap over the top of the pie. Freeze for 3-5 hours.

Remove it from the freezer, wrap foil around the entire pie, and then place it in a large freezer-safe plastic bag.

Freezing Pumpkin Pie Slices

Freeze individual slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment. Freeze for 3-5 hours.

Remove the tray from the freezer and transfer frozen slices to freezer-safe plastic bags. I can fit 6 slices of an 8-inch pie in these half-gallon reusable freezer bags.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you freeze a pumpkin pie that has already been baked?

Yes! It is best to freeze a baked pumpkin pie to avoid any potential for spillage of the unbaked filling.

How long will a frozen pumpkin pie last in the freezer?

If wrapped correctly (see process above or printable recipe card below), a whole pumpkin pie will last for 3-6 months in the freezer. Frozen pumpkin pie slices are best enjoyed within 3-4 months.

How do you reheat a frozen pumpkin pie?

If you froze the pie whole, you can allow it to thaw for a few hours at room temperature or overnight in the fridge.

You can serve it chilled or reheat it in a 300˚F oven for 10-20 minutes. I recommend tenting it with foil to prevent from the top from getting burnt.

To reheat pumpkin pie slices, you can allow them to thaw for a few hours at room temperature or overnight in the fridge. To reheat, microwave thawed slices for 30 seconds at a time until heated through.

Can you freeze a Costco pumpkin pie?

Absolutely! Is there anything better than the incredible value of a Costco pumpkin pie? Nope! That being said, they are HUGE.

If you have a large standalone freezer, you can freeze the Costco pie whole. If you’re pressed for space, I recommend freezing the pie in halves or slices.

How long will a pumpkin pie last in the refrigerator?

Pumpkin pie will last for 3-5 days in the fridge, but it’s really best if eaten within 2-3 days.

  1. Freezing the pie in individual slices is such a great idea! I love pumpkin pie, and tend to go hard on it in the week after Thanksgiving. Not sure why I never thought of individual portions in the freezer, but I’ll sure be doing that from now on!5 stars
