A few quick notes about this Costco shopping list:

  • Things are subject to change because Costco is notorious for being ruthless about not stocking items that aren’t insanely popular. Their inventory moves faster than a fart on a hot skillet.
  • Some of the items may be seasonal.
  • Some items may be regional or not available at all locations.
  • Always check the labels! Recipes and ingredients can change without notice and may even vary by state.

A Few Abbreviations:

Due to space I couldn’t write everything out word for word and relied on some abbreviations to keep this shopping list brief.

  • V = vegetarian
  • Veg = vegan
  • SWT = SWYPO Territory
  • Un.Sw = unsweetened
  • Kirkland Sig. = Kirkland Signature
  • G.Fed = grass fed
  • Org. = organic
  • BL = boneless
  • SK = skinless

Ready to get started? Let’s do this! There is a free printable shopping list available at the bottom of this post.

Some Highlights of Whole30 Costco Staples

Drinks

I’ve always been a sparkling water fan, but on a Whole30 round, sparkling water can be a lifesaver! Costco has bonkers good deals on Spindrift, La Croix, and they also have a Kirkland Signature brand of canned sparkling water.

Produce

Oh my gosh, you’re about to eat a butt-ton of produce while you’re doing a Whole30 round. Costco has great prices on both organic and conventionally grown fruits and vegetables.

Canned Goods & Pantry Staples

Canned coconut milk, organic tomatoes, pineapple (try it in this Whole30 compliant Whole30 + Paleo Teriyaki Sauce), and olives are wonderful Whole30 staples. And thanks to Costco’s wholesale prices they are very affordable.

Get yourself a 12 pack of organic diced tomatoes, and you’ll be making Whole30 Bruschetta Chicken in a flash.

Frozen Veggies

The selection of frozen veggies is ever-changing at Costco, but always fantastic and affordable.

Affordable and simple to use, frozen veggies are such an easy way to rock your round. In fact, I love frozen veg so much, I wrote The Ultimate Guide to Roasting Frozen Vegetables.

Eggs

Eggs pack a delicious amount of (non-meat) protein and Costco has great deals on organic and conventionally raised eggs.

Use their delicious organic brown eggs to make Instant Pot Sous Vide Egg Bites or Whole30 Quiche. They also have prepared egg whites and hard-boiled eggs for quick snacks.

Meat, Sauces & Prepared Meals

Within two days of our first Whole30 round, I realized how much I don’t really enjoy meat all that much. The key to surviving the 30 days was eating more twice as many veggies as normal and varying the meat we were eating.

Costco has a huge variety of fresh and frozen meat to chose from; much of it organic. And their fresh and frozen seafood selection is pretty awe-inspiring.

They also have grass-fed compliant hot dogs for a fast meal, and Aidell’s Chicken and Apple Sausage which works great in this Sheet Pan Sausage and Veggies dinner.

You’ll even find pulled pork which can be a great salad topping, but I love it on top of shredded cabbage and topped with Cilantro chimichurri.

Costco is a great place to get lots of affordable Whole30 compliant products. If you’re not currently a member but want to check it out, you can shop with a friend and use their membership card for your purchase. Costco also allows you to get a one-day guest pass to check it out for yourself.

  1. This list is SO helpful!
I went to Costco a couple of days ago to stock up on items to help me with my Whole 30 endeavor for January. I need to research this more, but Costco’s Low Sodium Kirkland bacon may be Whole 30 compliant. There isn’t any sugar in their low sodium version, while the regular version has sugar. I just haven’t researched if there are any additives in the low sodium bacon that would make it not compliant.

    1. I have heard of the low sodium bacon from Costco being compliant but the package that was at my Costco had an ingredient (of course I don’t remember which one it was) that made it not compliant.

I’ll be honest in that we stuck to the rules for our first round, but when we did a mini-round in October I just bought normal bacon. It’s super low in sugar and I knew I wasn’t eating it to get a sugar rush. My advice? Do it “right” the first time and just be ok with a teeny bit of sugar after that.

  2. Thank you for doing this!!!
This is the week I’ve decided to get my shirt together. I am determined to loose 30ish pounds in the next 3ish months. I figure working on my goal to hike 40 miles for my 40th birthday is a great way to lose the weight. The hubby even helped me create an excel sheet to plug in a big hike goal that then gets broken down into a 10 week training plan. It includes strength training and cross training. I’m super excited about it!
But moving more wont get me results if I keep eating like crap so Whole30 here I come!

    1. Way to go Tina, and you’re speaking my love language with “spreadsheet”. Though I did read it as your hubs helped you with a big “bike” goal and that made so much sense to me.

Good luck and keep us posted!
