Crispy, crunchy, and delicious, Air Fryer Chex Mix will be a huge hit! A delicious and fast treat, this small-batch Chex mix will become a snack-time staple. No air fryer? We have alternative cooking methods too!
If you’re like me, your oven is constantly going during the holiday season. There is always something baking!
That’s why this Air Fryer Chex Mix is such a favorite recipe. You can make this popular snack without needing the oven.
If you’re in the market for an air fryer, this is the one we have and love.
This recipe has two cooking times and temperatures. One is for a super-fast “I need a snack right now” batch. We’ll call it the “hangry method”.
The other makes it taste exactly like the oven-baked version. I like it super crispy and thus go for the slower cooking time when I make it. Both versions will be tasty, so do what works best for you.
Ingredients
I adapted this classic recipe from Chex to be small batch and a little bit extra garlicky. Because garlic should always be measured with your heart.
- Chex: corn, wheat, and rice. Pro tip: leave the wheat Chex out to make this gluten-free.
- Mix-ins: pretzels, mixed nuts, garlic bagel chips.
- Seasoning: garlic powder, onion powder, and seasoning salt.
- Liquids: butter and Worcestershire sauce.
But don’t stop there, feel free to adapt to what you have on hand. Throw in some pumpkin seeds, goldfish crackers, or even (popped) popcorn!
Pro Tips/Recipe Notes
- When you have finished baking the snack mix, allow it to fully cool on a plate lined with a paper towel, piece of newspaper, or clean paper bag. Fully cool before storing.
- Your snack mix will last stored in an air-tight container for up to two weeks. But you’ll definitely eat it all before then.
- No seasoning salt? I have also used Old Bay and Tony Chachere’s Creole Seasoning and all work. Head’s up: Tony’s has a lot of kick to it, so I decreased the amount to 1/2 tsp.
- To make this vegetarian, use a vegetarian Worcestershire sauce like The Wizards Sauce.
- Use a plant-based butter to make this dairy-free/vegan.

9 minutes in the air fryer at 350 seemed a bit long, but I followed it and it did end up overcooked/burned. I checked several other recipes and they either have a lower cooking temp or shorter cooking time.
This recipe is even better than the original and so easy to make. I chose the long way – 220 for 30 minutes which is still a lot quicker than the original recipe as well. And the portion is smaller which suits me since I am single. I do have one complaint though….this is so simple, quick and yummy that I am now on my 3rd batch!
I feel you, Dianne…I tested it five times and ate way too much Chex Mix! 🙂
So glad you enjoyed it!
