How to Make Air Fryer Onion Rings

*I’ll walk you through it here with some photos and tips, and you’ll also find a printable recipe card at the bottom of the post with exact measurements, etc. You can also click “jump to recipe” to skip down.

Add the onion rings to the air fryer basket. Some overlap is okay, but don’t crowd the basket. For oven-style air fryers, place them on the trays. You do not need to preheat the air fryer.

Follow cooking times/temps depending on how crispy you prefer your onion rings:

  • CRISPY: 390˚F/200˚c for 9 minutes, and shake the basket. Cook for an additional 2 minutes.
  • MEDIUM CRISPY: 380˚F for 8 minutes, and shake the basket. Cook for an additional 2 minutes. At 200˚c, cook for 7 minutes, shake, and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
  • LIGHTLY CRISPY: 370˚F for 10 minutes, and shake the basket. Cook for an additional 1-3 minutes. At 200˚c, cook for 6 minutes, shake, and cook for an additional 1-3 minutes.

  • If you have a smaller air fryer, you may need to cook your onion rings in batches.
  • Cook from frozen – do not thaw the onion rings before baking.
  • You do not need to spray any oil on the onion rings; they will cook perfectly without it.
  • Most frozen onion rings come pre-seasoned. Check the details on the package before adding any additional seasoning.
