Radishes aren’t just for picking out of salads. (Yes radish haters, I see you.) They’re also for air frying into a game-changing side dish. Potatoes who?

Basically, even if you’ve never liked radishes in a salad, there’s a good chance you’ll like them cooked in the air fryer.

This recipe is also a fantastic back-pocket recipe for anyone who gets a weekly CSA box. When you get a bunch of radishes and don’t know what to do with it, well, now you know: air fried radishes!

Ingredients

bowls of butter, olive oil, tins of seasonings, and a bundle of radishes on a grey board.

This recipe has:

  • Radishes – While I use common red radishes here, you can absolutely use this recipe for heirloom varieties, Easter egg, or even Daikon radishes. Just cut whatever you use into evenly sized pieces.
  • Olive oil and butter – For richness and to create that golden, crispy exterior.
  • SeasoningsGarlic powder, dried parsley, smoked paprika, kosher salt, and ground black pepper make these air fryer radishes delicious.

Step By Step Instructions

*I’ll walk you through it here with some photos and tips, and you’ll also find a printable recipe card at the bottom of the post with exact measurements, etc. You can also click “jump to recipe” to skip down.

Preheat your air fryer at 400˚F for 2 minutes. Trim and halve the radishes, then place them in a medium mixing bowl with the rest of the ingredients. Toss to coat.

Sustainability Tip

Sustainability Tip

Don’t toss those radish greens! You can eat them raw, sauteed, or incorporated into recipes like in our Instant Pot tortellini soup.

You can also freeze them if you’re not able to use them right away. Follow the instructions in our tutorial on how to freeze spinach.

a glass bowl with sliced seasoned radishes.

Brush some oil onto the air fryer basket, then arrange the radishes inside with the cut side facing down. You can also use air fryer parchment or an air fryer silicone mat.

Air fry the radishes at 380ºF for 13 to 15 minutes, shaking the basket at the 8 minute mark.

RECIPE VARIATIONS & OPTIONAL ADDINS

  • Add grated Parmesan or pecorino when you’re tossing the radishes with the seasonings for some cheesy flavor. Nutritional yeast works too.
  • If you need to make this dairy-free, feel free to use only olive oil, leaving out the butter.
  • Garnish with fresh herbs after the radishes are done cooking. Chopped parsley, rosemary, or thyme would all pair well with the flavors here.
  • Flavor your radishes with ranch seasoning instead of the seasonings listed in the recipe for some extra zippiness. Use the dried seasoning from our yogurt ranch dressing recipe.

How to Store

Storing Leftovers: Refrigerate leftover air fryer radishes in an airtight container for up to 4 days.

Reheating Leftovers: Reheat radishes in a 350ºF air fryer or in the microwave. You can also eat them cold; they’re an excellent addition to salads.

Between you and me, leftover roasted radishes have a very strong, ahem, farty, smell. So, unless you want the whole office to hate you, I wouldn’t reheat these at work.

Freezing Leftovers: I do not recommend freezing air fried radishes; their texture won’t be quite the same after freezing, thawing, and reheating.

WHAT TO SERVE WITH THIS RECIPE

Air fried radishes are fabulous for dipping in homemade tartar sauce and pesto mayo. Who needs French fries?!

They also make a great addition to meal bowls or a side dish for sheet pan chicken thighs, French onion pork chops, and air fryer drumsticks. In short, any recipe you’d pair with roasted potatoes is a good fit for air fryer radishes.

PRO TIPS/RECIPE NOTES

  • Don’t crowd the radishes into the basket. Doing this will make them steam and keep them from getting crispy on the outside. Air fry the radishes in batches if needed.
  • Try to grab a bunch of radishes that’s more or less the same size if you can. That way, they’ll all finish cooking at the same time. (If not, no worries. Worst case scenario, you can pluck the smaller ones from the basket when they’re done while you wait for the bigger radishes to become tender.)
  • Check your air fryer radishes at the 8 minute mark, when you shake the basket. All air fryers cook differently, so you’ll want to gauge how done they are at this point.
  • Note that larger radishes will need to cook longer. When they’re easily pierced with the tip of a knife, they’re done cooking.
